BLACK VEILED WOMAN
Black Veiled Woman was originally shot as a short film, but later also became the centerpiece of an audiovisual installation titled “Appearance & Reality” that confronts the audience with their own prejudice. The installation was first showcased by the Critical Art Ensemble at dOCUMENTA in 2012 and later traveled to other exhibitions.
The video makes you face your own Prejudice while the camera follows a black veiled woman on a hot summer day, wearing two heavy grocery bags, as she walks down a busy shopping street. In her long black robe that covers her body from head to toe she her turn into a side street, and yet another side street. We suddenly hear a call to prayer as the woman turns around and looks into the camera…
